From inception, every element was carefully considered by noted West Coast designer Etienne de Villiers in this luxury West Coast timber frame home. Superb design, excellent material quality and fine craftsmanship have been incorporated into this exceptional luxury timber frame home. The goal was to create a home that was beautiful, functional, efficient, well sited and enduring while exuding warmth and comfort. Good design is timeless.
The Douglas Fir used in this timber frame project is of superb quality. Island Timber Frame was selected to supply and manufacture the timber elements of this home. Etienne de Villiers has had the opportunity to collaborate with Island Timber Frame on many occasions and has always admired the attention to detail and the quality of the craftsmanship and materials used in all of their projects.
“This home could not have been built as well or in as timely a fashion without their involvement. Island Timber Frame created their own set of detailed drawings and pre-assembled all of the components in their facility on Vancouver Island. They then shipped and assembled their creation flawlessly on site. It’s wonderful to work with a company that completes their work on budget and on time and with such excellent quality.” notes DeVilliers.
The building was engineered to address both sheer and vertical loading and sits on an ICF foundation. The heated concrete slab on the main level was later covered by engineered wood and flagstone flooring. On the upper level, a radiant heated slab is supported by engineered floor joists. Using Island Timber Frames’ detailed working drawings, the onsite carpenters framed in the few conventional walls prior to Island Timber Frames’ arrival for assembly of the extensive timber frame skeleton. After sheeting, vertical board and baton siding was installed on the lower level, while pre-stained wood shingles were applied to the upper levels. The entire roof was covered by tapered and treated wood shingles of the finest quality over seven inches of rigid foam insulation. In every way this home was built to endure.
