This distinctive, three-storey home is built on an island waterfront property and built by AFC Construction. The building site is small with a steep slope, requiring extreme sensitivity to the surrounding environment and neighbouring properties. The structural feature of this home is a Helliwell + Smith Blue Sky Architecture designed glulam timberframe system.
A two-storey concrete wall cuts into the sloping bank forming the back wall for the first and second floor. The top floor with the main living area and entry is at road level. The residence’s curved roof, glazed façade and large decks on the upper two levels point to the ocean vista. The interior is defined by large exposed timbers and a panoramic view of the ocean and adjacent island.
Since this project was built on an Island on British Columbia’s West Coast, meticulous planning and accuracy was imperative to make sure installation was flawless on-site. To this end each glulam piece was pre-cut and test fitted in our shop before shipping.
